Summaries and Highlights of Goal Achievements
To achieve innovative teaching and enhance teaching quality, during the 2018–2019 academic year, the university loosened 86 regulations regarding university chore innovations, introduced a learning outcome assessment system, and completed a survey and analysis of learning outcomes. The outcomes were applied to enhance the quality assurance mechanisms of the departments. At present, four departments have amended their curriculum according to the analysis results, and thus 32% of the university’s departments have conducted curriculum reform. Furthermore, 83 in-depth integration courses have been recorded. The University Career and Competency Assessment Network had accessed 10 departments regarding the match between their curriculum and career competency, which accounted for 50% of the undergraduate departments. In addition, a three-college interdisciplinary model was established to achieve core competencies of colleges. In addition, the university has established 50 professional teaching communities of instructors and 77 student autonomous learning groups to strengthen the self-development of instructors and students alike. Regarding general education, the university focuses on providing training for reading and expression ability by using literature about Taitung. A total of 16 social practice courses were established and 72 exemplary works were provided to enhance the English-learning environment. In addition, 70 self-learning courses and 18 general education courses on programming were expanded, 92% of which were for students outside the College of Science and Engineering.
Regarding the three-college interdisciplinary model, the teachers’ college implemented 16 cases of the “gradual release of responsibility” teaching model and offered 12 English, Japanese, and mathematics counseling courses. To cope with the reform of elementary schools due to low birthrates, the university implemented differentiated and multigrade instruction to transcend university classrooms. By reforming internship courses, the university exerted its influence outside the campus to cultivate future employability in students in elementary schools and tribes. The College of Humanities offered 21 professional and innovative courses and established the Humanity Innovation Base for Eastern Taiwan to exercise their influences of their capstone results. In addition, the college held eight humanities and arts joint exhibitions that featured approximately 300 art pieces by students and instructors and offered 11 interdisciplinary module courses. By collaborating with local agencies, the university granted students opportunities to provide professional services to communities, indigenous tribes, and nongovernmental organizations. To date, 256 local service visits have been completed, along with 11 exhibitions designed to give back to local communities. To enhance students’ basic capability and to share knowledge, the College of Science and Engineering established 13 foundational courses and an online item bank that comprises 6,555 items, constructed a three-college interdisciplinary learning and innovative teaching environment, and completed 12 technology transfers. In addition, the college promoted the talent cultivation of core industries, opened 50 courses, and received 33 extramural competition awards.
Developing institutional features: The university stationed personnel to assist in the operations of a Chinese language center in Vietnam and sign 5 letters of letter of intent (LOI) or memorandum of understanding (MOU); held a joint exhibition on cultural artifacts with the Institution of Ethnology, Academia Sonica; held the International workshop on cultural heritage, community empowerment and sustainable management of the Austronesian peoples; build 1 Chinese-English bilingual collection of cultural relics, 1 South Island special issue; and collected, compiled, and integrated literature on the traditional ecological knowledge of indigenous people into courses. To enhance its international development, to construct a green international university, signed a MOU with 22 international sister schools and selected 12 students to implement overseas exchange programs, and the university opened language courses for Indonesian, Vietnamese, and German; participated in the GreenMetric World University Ranking; developed the “Modular Curriculum and Adaptive and Interdisciplinary Learning Path Planning System” and “An E-commerce Ecosystem Platform for a Circular Economy”; and completed 16 technology transfers of green knowledge and economic innovation technologies and 9 campus demonstration projects that were demonstrated.
Enhancing the publicity of higher education: The university implemented measures to prioritize economically or culturally disadvantaged students for enrollment. In the day division bachelor’s program, 20% of first-year students were from economically disadvantaged households, 319 students received counseling and scholarship, and 60 received the Career Personality Aptitude System test. Through this, the university helped relieve the economic burden of students and cultivated their career competitiveness. Regarding school administrative data, the university distributed over 530 institutional data forms that use dynamic charts. In addition, the university analyzed 21 school administrative topics and determined over 100 related measures. Over 20% of the results from the topics have been applied to improve the university administration.
Achieving university social responsibility: The university achieves its social responsibilities in three dimensions: outlining the framework for regional connection, constructing an environment for implementation, and developing interdisciplinary services. By participating in discussions on social issues, operating a servicescape on three social topics of daily life (i.e., production, lifestyle, and ecology), and establishing a one-stop integrated service window, the university participated in nine social issues, involved the participation of over 600 instructors, students, and the public, integrated social issues into 20 courses, produced 24 pieces of work, and generated NT$1 million in output value.
